ABSTRACT

This chapter contains M-O-S-T; the principles on which it is based; underlying assumptions; guidance on application, and relevant issues; and related models. Many organizations successfully involve all levels of staff in the setting of the M-O-S-T elements. Communication of M-O-S-T elements throughout the organization can help to integrate and motivate staff. Organizations benefit from using the model to focus its resources. All lower-level activities within an organization should further the higher-level purpose and direction. An organization's development should start with a broad statement of purpose from which more detailed objectives and strategies are defined. An organization's development is most effective when carried out in a systematic and structured process. Tactics are the short-term plans for implementing strategies. Strategies are the long-term plans designed to achieve the mission and objectives. The mission is the organization's purpose and direction. A systematic approach to business development increases its long-term stability and effectiveness.
