ABSTRACT
The most Bewildering and yet revealing gesture of a truly fundamental American theology is the moment in which an individual stands forth and proclaims, "This is my belief." The Market God lacks a market in the sense of a place where decisions are made about the production and consumption of goods and the natural settling of prices. Moreover the growing carbon dioxide emissions from China’s booming industrial sector for which it is taking such an international pillorying is not really China’s at all. The same is true for the international fishing industry. While Europe and the US tighten controls on fishing on their borders and try to protect valuable nurseries they export the same old habits of plunder and profit to places like West Africa where the European Union has negotiated fishing rights with impoverished and desperate governments like Senegal.
