ABSTRACT
Having formed my plan, I instantly hastened home. There was no one in the house but a servant. I took pen and paper, and wrote to Henrietta, to say, without assigning any reason for my conduct, that I was going for a few days on a visit to a franklin near Winchester, at whose house I had once been boarded during a fit of illness, while I was at school, and who, having succeeded to the inheritance of a distance relation, had been very importunate with me to spend a few days under his roof, and partake with him in such rural sports as his neighbourhood afforded. /
