ABSTRACT

The gipsies did not like intermeddling in the business, as, on their part, there was so much to risk and so little to gain. They would have to venture, probably, in the face of fire-arms, and encounter death itself, if they openly attempted to rescue Dick; and no other plan seemed practicable. Wilton was of a different opinion. The more the risk and the greater the danger, the more did the enterprise charm him; and, in the present case, I entirely agreed with him, as I had had little of late to stir my blood up to its natural flow, and longed to be once more in the midst of adventure.
