ABSTRACT

Some months after my expedition to Banbury Castle, I was one day walking along Bond Street, at the fashionable shopping hour, when my attention was attracted by a very fine carriage, remarkable, among the rest of the equipages which crowded the street, for the richness of its ornaments, and the splendid liveries of the servants. Curiosity respecting rank and riches is always on the alert and easily excited, and it was this feeling which induced me to inquire, though without success, to whom this fine carriage belonged. I little thought how soon I should learn personally more than I could have dreamed of, and more, in some respects, than I would ever have wished to know respecting it.
