Percy had only been once in London, and then but for a few days, previous to his expedition to dissipate his vexation, or at least conceal it from those who might be aware of its cause. He had few personal acquaintance, and such as he had he wished to avoid, choosing rather to mix unknown with the crowds at the theatres and other places of public resort, which he assiduously frequented.
