The George and Orange Slade letter is another classic immigrant letter that describes a seven-week voyage, arrival in Quebec, and the subsequent journey to Ohio, where fever and ague were severe challenges to successful pioneering. Significantly, they find work for another English immigrant, on a farm for $14 per week, with room and board. Their situation was far better offthan in England and they encourage others to join them.
