ABSTRACT

IN the short space of two months, after their first acquaintance, Mr. Marauder completely alienated the affections, or at least the inclinations, of Emily Bellaire from Wilson, and transferred them to his own proper person. His whole artillery of prayers, vows, / compliments, and flattery had been levelled at a weak fortification, where Vanity commanded in chief, and Folly was Prime-Minister. The outworks were already won, and the citadel was ready to surrender at discretion; but Marauder, like a complete General, was not fond of giving too favourable terms.
