ABSTRACT

When her husband and the philosopher drove off from the cottage, Dorothea, overcome with terror and anxiety, uttering a shriek, had attempted to rush out in pursuit of them; but her weakness prevented her purpose, and she sunk fainting on the threshold. Miss Davies, however, more collected, gave directions to a man, who was at work in the garden, to overtake the carriage, if possible, and attend to the motions of the gentlemen it contained.
