Williams, who had never yet been found blind to his own interest, paid uncommon court to the senior Melvilles; whilst every observation which fell from the lips of the fair Dorothea appeared to astonish and delight him. He affected to watch her as a phenomenon, but only now and then suffered an exclamation of wonder to escape at her eccentric fancies.
