ABSTRACT

Healthy sex is a positive, integral part of being a man. Sex can serve a number of positive functions in one's life, from pleasure, self-assurance, intimate bonding, stress reduction, and reproduction. Contrary to the porn model, the essence of healthy male sexuality is giving and receiving both intense and relaxing pleasurable touch that integrates intimacy and eroticism. A striking example is that three out of four men fear that their penis is smaller than average. Other than being statistically impossible, it illustrates the competitive dilemma. Men are not encouraged to think and talk about sex in a healthy manner. Cognitions involve ideas, beliefs, observations, interpretations, and reasoning. Action is always a choice. The freedom to choose one's behavior is mitigated by thoughts and feelings, but responsible and mature living mandates accountability for their behavior. Emotions are chemical–electrical energy events in one's body.
