ABSTRACT

Most of the sex resources, especially media and self-help books, focus on female sexuality issues. The male issues that receive the most attention are erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. The emphasis is on a medical approach, directed solely to the man, with a promise of a return to perfect sexual performance. Primary prevention is the best strategy. However, the authors are realistic in accepting that most men will not be open to this approach until their 40s or 50s. The mantra of intimacy, pleasure, eroticism, and positive, realistic expectations comes to fruition in one's 60s. Sex is a positive, lifelong developmental process that brings challenges that are different for a 30-year-old man, a 50-year-old man, and a 70-year-old man. The advantage of a new relationship is that by its nature one puts time and energy into it. Romance and passionate sex are major drivers for a new relationship.
