ABSTRACT

This chapter provides examples of teleworking among library and information workers. The aim is to present 'snapshots' to show the reality and diversity of teleworking in action. Many of the case studies were obtained in response to a request on the listserv LIS-LINK. Some teleworkers have written their own accounts. Others were put together via personal, telephone or email interviews – with email follow-ups to check accuracy. There are more accounts of self-employed professionals than those employed in libraries, but this probably reflects the current situation in the UK. In addition to librarians and consultants, some case studies describe situations where teleworking is carried out for only part of the time.
