ABSTRACT

Personal performance targets for staff could be introduced to measure particular features of their work which relate to the priced service. Staff may have taken on extra areas of responsibility, as well as meeting additional and different demands. Present this in a non-threatening way, as a positive measure, a way of recognizing what the staffs has achieved. After all, staff form a vital part of the service and law librarians will want them to know how well they are doing and how much their contribution is valued. This can provide a strong motivator to further achievement. The brainstorming sessions which helped with the initial planning could usefully be continued, forming part of regular service reviews. Law librarians will need continued and regular contact with existing clients, measuring satisfaction and establishing changing needs. Press monitoring can be allocated to specific members of the team, with each member taking responsibility for a certain subject area or geographical region.
