ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the possible approach and intention of a knowledge audit. Such audits can then be seen as tools to assist in the process of achieving maximum effective use of all the organisation's intellectual assets. The audit is an extremely valuable tool for planning a new process or activity. Commitment and positive attitudes throughout the organisation are essential. Some of the participants will have been selected on account of their known areas of specific activity or knowledge, some for their interpersonal skills, and others for their longstanding knowledge and understanding of the organisation itself. In addition to the initial exploratory briefings there will be a need for various other types of meetings, some with a particular focus, such as task forces or working parties concerned with specific aspects of development and implementation. As the project progresses it could be useful to have a series of seminars or presentations by the various working parties or task forces.
