ABSTRACT

Key tasks and responsibility will be apparent that to ensure an efficient and effective knowledge management function which is able to meet its objectives, it is essential to establish precisely which activities will be involved in its day-to-day operation. This will mean listing the various tasks to be done, the frequency with which they need to be carried out, the skills required, and the allocation of responsibilities for their execution. Key daily tasks will be: collection of new material, selection for inclusion, inputting, indexing, searching and retrieval, and delivery of output to the end-user. There will also be a need to keep up-to-date with new ways of organising information in terms of creating records and making the most of indexing tools; learning about new software products and evaluating them for particular tasks. As the Pricewaterhouse Coopers case study shows in its framework of competencies and the ability to work with others are equally as important as research and analysis skills.
