ABSTRACT

Management Consultancy is one of the best examples of a knowledge-based business. The information and knowledge exchange (IKE) consists of both dedicated human resources and a Lotus Notes based knowledge management system. This chapter presents the case study, which focuses on the human resources and the skills that they require. However, in order to create a context for these skills it is first necessary to outline the scope of IKE. IKE is designed to support the key business processes of PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consultancy Services. The knowledge hubs provide an essential service to the business, and in order to maximise business contact and accountability the staff in any hub are 'owned' and managed by the most appropriate sector or serviceline business group. The knowledge hub role consists of the following five key elements: Maintaining the content of IKE libraries, maintaining libraries of hard copy materials, supporting users of IKE, undertaking research, and knowledge sharing evangelism.
