ABSTRACT

The range and scope of desk top publishing (DTP) software has led to many organisations carrying out much of their own preparation of printed material. However the availability of a computer and some software, whatever its potential, does not necessarily lead to an elegant and attractive library and information service (LIS) guide. Word-processing and DTP facilities offer a great deal of flexibility in the production process. Information technology brings with it a lot of opportunities to promote the LIS. Christine Goodair, Information Services Manager at The Children's Society, found it enormously helpful to be able to discuss her requirements with the in-house Publicity and Design Department, Earlier guides had been produced without such assistance, but with additional professional advice. The result is a brief guide aimed largely at the staff of the Society, outlining the services available and listing LIS staff contact details.
