ABSTRACT
Figure 4.1 illustrates the summary of the alignment algorithms in the past decades. It can be derived that more than 10 new approaches have come into market and academics during the past few years.
In respect to the critical situation that long sequence reads will dominate the sequencing field in the near future, while current aligners could still not handle the tremendous amount of reads in the reasonable time, we propose a novel PC-FPGA hybrid architecture in this chapter to improve the performance of the long read mapping.
