INTRODUCTION e development of a mammalian embryo includes a number of critical stages in which epigenetic programming and reprogramming are important aspects for development into a healthy ospring. Implications resulting from abnormal epigenetic reprogramming have been reviewed (1) and are not addressed here. is review is focused on the basic epigenetic mechanisms that take place during preimplantation mammalian development, which is briey described in the following.
