ABSTRACT

Digital image processing systems come in many different configurations, depending on the application. As technology advances, these systems get smaller, faster, and more sophisticated. In Chapter 1, we saw some imaging systems used for computer vision applications. In this chapter, we will focus on the primary aspects of a generic imaging system. We will look at how images are sensed and transformed into computer files, and how these computer files are used to represent image information. We will present the Computer Vision and Image Processing tools (CVIPtools) software environment, including the new MATLAB CVIP Toolbox, and introduce use of these tools for image processing and analysis.
