ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces Performance Intelligence Systems (PIS) as constituting of Performance Measurement System (PMS), Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and Business Intelligence (BI). It explains the CPM framework and the CPM commercial solutions available on the market. Performance is an integral part of corporate strategy and consists of performance objectives and the means/actions required to achieve them. The Analytics Microsoft suite now has all the components of a CPM platform, although it has only a limited presence in corporate environments. The attractiveness of the reporting environments and the familiarity of the analysis environments generate a high level of interest among controlling staff, who usually handle huge volumes of Excel spreadsheets. Its current level of integration with non-Microsoft information technology (IT) sources seems to restrict its adoption by organizations that have consolidated their use of different architectures over the years.
