Facial reconstruction has always been a challenge for plastic surgeons and has represented one of the major boosts for the development of the speciality.
Many difculties are linked to anatomical facial features, such as the small amount of local tissue available for reconstruction, the concept of aesthetic unity, and the essential balance between aesthetics and functionality.
