ABSTRACT

Microwaves are a portion of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum lying between UHF (ultrahigh-frequency) radio waves and heat (infrared) waves and span the frequency range of 300 MHz to 300 GHz (Figure 1.1). Since the 1950s, microwaves have been widely used in a variety of applications, including communication, radio detection and ranging (radar), radio astronomy, navigation, spectroscopy, and heating and power applications.
