ABSTRACT
I. Introduction Whereas Chapter 4 considers PBT policies at the international and regional governance levels, this chapter surveys PBT policies at the national level. Although individual European countries do have their own chemical regulations, the European Union (EU) Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation constitutes the overarching policy through which the laws of Member States function. Therefore, we do not consider the policies of individual European countries. We do consider the national policies of Japan, China, Canada, and the United States.
