ABSTRACT

A great deal of information has been presented in the previous 14 chapters of this text surveying the major points along the waterfall model of the systems development life cycle (SDLC). After the system has been designed, built, and tested-culminating with the previous chapter-we now enter into the operational use and systems support phase. This is a lengthy stage, which lasts the life of the product. It is the nal life-cycle phase before the disposal and retirement phase, which will be the topic for the next and nal chapter. In this chapter, the topics of system use, integrated logistics, service and support, and systems modication/sustaining maintenance are highlighted. During the activities performed in this phase, usage, performance, and reliability data are collected and analyzed and used as part of the next system design to allow for continual improvements of performance and reliability.
