ABSTRACT

The method by which the priming coat on vehicle body shells is applied in the factory is known as electro-deposition. A large dip tank containing about 2500 litres of a water-borne paint is included in the production line. This chapter provides types of paint : Oil paints, synthetic paints, stoving paints, blacking paints and two-pack paints. There are three types of sealers used by the refinisher: standard, isolators and bleed inhibitors. Finish is the term used to describe the finishing colour coats. When an even coating is necessary, such as with metallic finishes, it is better to spray each face separately, starting with a vertical stroke at the edge of the panel. In order to produce smooth, glossy finishes the substrates and undercoats must be levelled down without leaving deep scratches. There are four main car refinishing paints at the refinisher's disposal: cellulose synthetic paint, acrylic resin paint, low-bake synthetic paint and two-pack paints.
