ABSTRACT

MET technicians are doing an increasingly large percentage of the repairs to damaged vehicles and the fitting of both new and replacement components. This chapter seeks to underpin working professionals skills with relevant applied science, which should help you understand why cars get damaged and how some repair processes work. For instance, on some vehicles the complete front panel assembly must be removed to replace the head-lamp. This entails working with electrical and mechanical components such as the radiator and air conditioning as well as the actual body panels. SI stands for System International, a system of measurement units which was developed following World War II. We have three distinct battery types: conventional batteries as used on cars and light commercial vehicles or LCVs, specialist high-capacity batteries for vehicles which have stop-start systems and batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles.
