ABSTRACT

Contributions within the third stage start to investigate the theoretical underpinnings of the business model concept. A special issue in Long Range Planning tried to define the theoretical profile of the business model concept. Business models are designed and implemented in specific environments, which can influence or be influenced by the business models. Mapping the business model’s ecosystem current features and reflecting upon the future trends of external forces are very relevant activities because they trigger thoughts on potential changes and innovations to improve the current business model. Classifying objects in homogenous categories is a very relevant activity within a research domain as it allows researchers to organize abstract and complex concepts, thus triggering further insights to advance research in a certain domain. Value Capture describes how much customers pay to obtain the value proposition, that is, the share of the value created that a company is able to capture.
