ABSTRACT
When choosing a suit to represent the Fifties, look for narrow lapels first. Patch pockets and pleated pants are additional indicators of the Fifties. The jacket from a modern slim fit suit can work for the Fifties, if you replace the pants with a wider leg trouser. Avoid extremely skinny suits that create pull lines when buttoned. If a jacket fits well in the shoulders, but is too boxy though the torso, the side seams and side back seams may be taken in a little. This is a very subtle alteration, only a small amount may be removed from each seam.
