ABSTRACT

Once carers have started to consider, in a group setting, that they can make changes that are not too daunting and might be beneficial they will then want to discuss the benefits from making regular changes. ‘What is the point of…?’ is a very good question and group discussion can reveal a variety of benefits for carers of being able to undertake a series of experiments to change their own behaviour. For example:

Everything seems much calmer now.

I feel so much better now I have taken some time out.

My son is talking more.

My wife is happier now that I have taken a step back.

It feels so good when you see change having a positive impact.

It is like a little bit of magic, small changes can really make a big difference.
