ABSTRACT

This chapter breaks down what exactly an NLP coaching model is and recognises how this is different from a theory or a framework. It shows how in order to be congruent an NLP model needs to flow from a set of presuppositions and a theory and how within NLP many different coaching models are in place as a consequence of operating from different emphases. This chapter will also attempt to distinguish which set of psychological frames NLP borrows most heavily from so as to give the reader a sense of the general NLP epistemology. Specifically the chapter explores constructivism, cognitive linguistics, systems theory, hypnosis and cognitive and behavioural psychology.
