ABSTRACT

This chapter provides especially for people starting out in the group/team coaching space. Group coaching is undertaken with the specific purpose of learning. David Clutterbuck suggests there are two categories of team coach. The first simply transfer what they do in coaching individuals, 'add a dash of facilitation and or team building, and wing it'. The second start from a deep understanding of process and team dynamics, have a clear understanding of some of the ethical considerations in working with teams and distinguish carefully between team coaching and team facilitation. A coach with good foundation coaching skills and facilitation skills may feel competent to work with groups, leveraging structure to design effective learning sessions. There are heaps of generic team coaching methodologies and lots of different approaches to working with team dynamics. The coaching of teams and groups appears to be an area ripe for further dialogue, exploration and innovation.
