ABSTRACT

The reasoning of the present chapter focuses on the European matrices of the studies on nonviolence, peace and conflict. The thoughts of Simone Weil on the problem of war, Aldo Capitini’s socio-religious nonviolence, Norberto Bobbio’s institutional pacifism and Danilo Dolci’s nonviolent social change will be presented, with particular attention paid to the contexts of the world wars and of the post-conflict situation of division into blocs.
