ABSTRACT

Bullying is longstanding violence, physical or mental, conducted by an individual or a group and directed against an individual who is not able to defend himself in the actual situation. Bullying does not only concern the victims and the bullies, it also affects parents, teachers and peers who are all a part of the social system in which bullying occurs. This chapter looks at steps which can be taken to deal with bullying in this kind of a system perspective. One must assume that both increased influence on the teacher's part and increased friendship among the pupils will contribute to preventing bullying from occurring. If the teacher is able to create positive relations with each pupil, then it will be possible for the teacher's own behaviour and attitude to have an effect on the pupils. The teacher will achieve greater influence on each pupil.
