ABSTRACT

This overview chapter engages with the primary questions which guide this proposed book. These questions include the extent to which globalization of skin-whitening and anti-ageing biotechnology requires the discursive construction of ageing as a disease, and pigmented skin as unhealthy and aesthetically undesirable. To that end, the book seeks to interrogate the extent to which anti-ageing and skin-whitening biotechnology represent a site of biomedicalization and racialization vulnerabilities.
