ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the authors offer the value of the study abroad experience—for the student, instructor, department, and institution. The benefits for students; department and university can be significant as well. When students return to campus after a study abroad experience, they will bring with them stories, pictures, and a sense of excitement about course-based study abroad that will be infectious. For faculty, course-based study abroad can open the world to students and give their opportunity to see places and have experiences students otherwise would never have a chance to do. Preparing to teach a course-based study abroad class will inevitably expand students' knowledge and understanding of the focus of the class as well as the nation, people, and culture of their destination. A seamless travel experience is the foundation for students being able to truly absorb the course content through their on-ground experiences.
