ABSTRACT

To fully conceptualize, measure, and understand how people communicate when they are stressed and its impact on resilience and potential thriving, it is important to consider the sociocultural, psychological, biosocial, and social forces involved. Without these considerations, only a partial picture of what is happening can be procured. Consequently, this chapter discusses how we think thriving may manifest physiologically and, psychologically, and how it can be fostered through social relationships. It also discusses the role of social relationships and communication as a part of this process. Finally, the newly developed theory of resilience and relational load (TRRL) is outlined as a way to examine resilience and thriving in close relationships.
