ABSTRACT

Virtualization is being used in data centers to facilitate cost savings and create a smaller, “green” footprint. As a result, multi-tenant uses of servers are being created on what used to be single-tenant or single-purpose physical servers. The extension of virtualization and virtual machines into the cloud is affecting enterprise security as a result of the evaporating enterprise network perimeter. In this entry, the importance of security in the cloud computing environment is presented, particularly with regard to the Software-as-a-Service environment and the security challenges and best practices associated with it.
