ABSTRACT

Post-primary education in England is still largely based on segregation of the sexes. The 'reorganization' of the Elementary Schools has on the whole increased the amount of segregation. Moreover, post-primary education in England is still largely based on segregation of the sexes. However, it was clear that if sexual differences did affect reading tastes the results would be traceable in the investigation. Since 1923 'secondary' education has been complicated by the emergence of the 'Hadow' Schools, and is likely to become even more complex with the raising of the school-leaving age and the development of technical education. Again and again teachers were assured by their witnesses that one boy differed from another, and one girl from another, even more than boys differed from girls; and teachers could not but notice that a superiority which one witness claimed for boys might be vindicated by the next witness for girls.'.
