ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shall be concerned with the results of our reading, the outcome of our engagement with the text. Often those results are easily identifiable and we are able to judge at once whether our reading has been successful. Most tests of reading outcome, such as the comprehension tests commonly used in school, work at this level. Sometimes, however, we are looking for a rather richer outcome from our reading, which such tests will not show. In this chapter we suggest a way of registering such a richer reading. Whatever our way of testing the outcome, however, the important thing is that by observing the results of our reading objectively we should be in a position to review the effectiveness of our approach.
