Round and round the garden

Why do we have to call ‘Round and round the garden’ a ‘finger-play?’ Such a clinical, professional, and therefore alienating word, no-one but an academic could possibly know what it means. Isn’t it just a nursery rhyme, or, if we want to be more specific, a nursery tickle rhyme? I shall call such rhymes ‘tickle rhymes’ from now on.
