Then one after another came official reports (notably the Milner- Holland housing report) and articles in the national press and television documentaries (one of them showing the tin baths hanging on the yard walls and the children being bathed in front of the fire in a Nottingham area where, it was stated, nine out of ten houses had no bathroom and eight out of ten no indoor lavatory), and finally the Plowden Report. Experts revealed that the dump round the corner did exist. We wondered if, amazingly, we would become respectable.
