ABSTRACT

Collaborative family–school partnerships provide an essential foundation for maximizing academic and social learning for all students. These partnerships should be incorporated into all aspects of the school culture. Problem-solving Parent Conferences are a vehicle for collaborative home–school interventions for social, emotional, and behavior problems occurring in school, home, and/or community settings. Unfortunately, there remains limited research on evidence-based parent and family interventions designed for schools. However, there is significant literature on evidence-based family therapy and multisystem intervention approaches that are infrequently referenced in school intervention literature. This introductory chapter outlines the need for integrating family and systems therapy approaches into traditional behavioral consultation models to implement coordinated home–school interventions.
