ABSTRACT

The fashion supply chain process is rather complex and largely dependent on many upstream suppliers such as fiber producers and yarn and fabric manufactures. The successful business operation depends on establishing a proper relationship among all the suppliers, vertically and horizontally. In a globally competitive atmosphere, where manufacturing has been shifted to developing countries, the availability of accurate and real-time information is the key for achieving the business objectives of fashion brands. This chapter focuses on various applications of RFID technology in the textile manufacturing process, which includes fiber production and yarn manufacturing, essential components of a garment. The applications of RFID technology in natural fiber production such as monitoring individual animals and plants and, in spinning, managing the bobbins, cones and other materials are discussed in this chapter. Furthermore, the use of RFID technology in machine maintenance, bale transportation and managing fibers in testing labs is also discussed.
