ABSTRACT

Many fashion brands and fashion manufacturers have implemented RFID technology in their supply chain. The benefits achieved by RFID technology have been realized in cost saving, reducing lead time, accuracy of information and real-time information availability. However, the application of RFID technology in fashion and textile supply chain faces several challenges, both while installing and during RFID operations. These challenges relate to high costs; lack of security and privacy; security attacks by hackers; RFID tag damage; cloning of tags; and technological disadvantages, which are discussed in this chapter. Furthermore, the issues relating to lack of standardization of the tags, readers, software and hardware highlight issues of technical compatibility between different countries, which is also discussed in this chapter. Ethical issues and data management issues related to RFID technology are also covered in this chapter.
