ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview and a discussion on elements, negotiation application, and limitations of negotiation evaluation. Reflecting on negotiation performance is a powerful learning experience which considers past events and extracts valuable opportunities for continued improvement and development. A thorough evaluation of the negotiation process can provide a 'parallel' journey of review, from which subsequent corrective action can be derived. Developing organisational negotiation capability is an iterative process. Capturing lessons learned centrally and disseminating among team members can help to incrementally improve overall performance. Individual training needs may also be identified, which can help to inform a training and development plan accordingly. Negotiation application are helps the negotiator to assess their strengths and weaknesses, supports understanding of team development needs, can aid the building of best practice negotiation format within the organisation, and can gain organisational competitive advantage through improved performance.
