ABSTRACT

According to the old saying, all good things must come to an end. The ambiguity of this statement is as applicable to the study of international organizations as it is to life in general, especially as the answers are notably lacking in the foundational texts of many international organizations. With this in mind, Chapter 11 examines the available information and practice regarding the end of an international organization as well as Member State withdrawal from an international organization. It is important to understand that such events very rarely happen, and that when international organizations decide to end their operations they will usually carry over to a successor international organization rather than disappear completely.
