ABSTRACT

This Chapter begins with a discussion of diplomatic rights and then proceeds into international organization rights. Finally, it directly compares and contrasts these forms of rights to highlight the key differences and similarities. In the international context, it is essential to understand the application of privileges and immunities to the diplomatic and consular realm as well as the realm of international organizations. This is so because, while the same policy considerations inform the similarities in these rights, there are also significant areas where the diplomatic and organizational worlds do not overlap and, thus, the rights afforded to each form of entity vary. Even within the realm of diplomatic rights there are differences in status, and within international organization rights there are differences.
