ABSTRACT

This chapter explores specialised police organisations, existing in a number of countries, which are police bodies with a comparable appearance and powers to the public police, but which serve a specific sector/area. The chapter shows the significant privateness that some of these bodies exhibit. The chapter considers military policing, parks policing, transport policing, nuclear policing, campus police, the policing of religious places of worship and finally the policing of political institutions. The chapter also evaluates the case for such police.
